Building a Brighter Future Through Education
Advocacy. Coaching. Housing.
Being a parent in college isn’t easy. Balancing classes, childcare, and work can be overwhelming—but you don’t have to do it alone. Heartland Scholar House provides the support and resources you need to earn your degree and build a better future for your family.

Scholars meet with a family advocate to set and refine their personal, professional, and educational goals. These one-on-one meetings help parents break down barriers, navigate challenges, proactively plan for their future, and stay on track to graduate from the program of their choice.
With a strong support system in place, single parents not only earn degrees—they break the cycle of poverty for themselves and their children.

Heartland Scholar House empowers families to transform their family’s future.
What We Offer
Family Advocacy
Family advocates provide individualized support to Scholar Families, assisting with educational and career goal-setting, financial coaching, and life skills development to build a foundation for long-term stability and success. They ensure families' basic needs are met, support them to access essential resources, and help them navigate complicated systems.
Academic Coaching
From selecting the right program and courses to study strategies and time management, our academic coaches help Scholars succeed in higher education while balancing family responsibilities.
Workshops
Monthly workshops cover essential skills like career readiness, goal setting, parenting, household management, mental health, and personal growth.
Safe and affordable housing

No matter where you’re starting from, we’re here to help you build a future with more opportunities for you and your family.
A Program Without Walls
Scholar House meets you where you are
We offer flexible support tailored to your needs, whether that means meeting in person (at home or in the office) or connecting virtually.

If you’re a parent pursuing post-secondary education, you’re eligible to engage with Scholar House programming, no matter where you are on your educational journey.

Parents come to us at different stages: some are completing high school and planning for college, while others are already enrolled in degree or certificate programs. Our services are designed to adapt to each Scholar’s goals, circumstances, and motivations.
Every Scholar begins by partnering with a Family Advocate to build stability and set personal goals. As they progress, they receive one-on-one academic support from an Academic Coach. Scholar Families also attend monthly workshops that include meals and enriching educational activities for both parents and children.
Single parents pursuing full-time education may qualify for our residential program, which offers safe, affordable housing through degree completion. Residential Scholars commit to regular meetings with their Family Advocate and Academic Coach, and participate in monthly workshops as part of their holistic support.
